Before You Begin

Complete these checks before uploading or managing inventory for the first time. Confirm B2B Plus is installed, Shopify locations and products are in place, and staff or API credentials have the access they need.

In this guide:

Prerequisites

Before uploading or managing inventory for the first time, confirm the following are in place:

  • B2B Plus is installed and the initial Shopify data sync has been run. See Installation Guide.
  • At least one Shopify location exists and is mapped as a Warehouse
  • Products intended to carry inventory already exist in the Shopify catalog

Required Permissions

Access to the Inventory module in the admin UI requires standard B2B Plus staff access.

For external systems integrating over the API, the Inventory Read and Inventory Write scopes control whether an integration can view upload status or upload CSV files, respectively. See API scopes.

Shopify Location Setup

The Warehouse field on every inventory record maps directly to a Shopify location ID. Locations must be created and named in Shopify Admin (Settings → Locations) before they can be referenced as a Warehouse when uploading or editing inventory.

A WAREHOUSE value that doesn't match an existing Shopify location ID will fail import with a Location Not Found error.

Shopify Product Sync

Every inventory record is matched to a product by its SKU (Style Number). The product must already exist in the Shopify catalog and be synced into B2B Plus — via Sync products or Sync all — before inventory can be uploaded against that SKU.

Uploading inventory for a SKU that hasn't synced yet fails with an Invalid SKU error. See Shopify data sync.

Inventory Sync Requirements

As a rule of thumb:

  • Run Sync all after installation to bring in existing companies, locations, customers, and products
  • Re-run Sync products (or Sync all) whenever new products are added in Shopify before uploading inventory rows for them

Inventory uploads do not create products or locations on their own — they only attach quantities to SKUs and warehouses that already exist.
