Best Practices
Follow these recommendations to keep inventory accurate, storefront-ready, and easier to manage at scale.
In this guide:
- Managing Inventory by Location
- Maintaining Accurate SKUs
- Scheduling Future Inventory
- Using Purchase Orders Effectively
- Importing Large Inventory Files
Managing Inventory by Location
Keep Warehouse values consistent with Shopify location IDs, and review stock per location regularly rather than only at a company-wide total.
Maintaining Accurate SKUs
Keep Style Numbers aligned with Shopify product SKUs so uploads and syncs match records without manual reconciliation.
Scheduling Future Inventory
Set Available From (and To) dates deliberately for Future and Prebook records so ship windows and buyer expectations stay accurate.
Using Purchase Orders Effectively
Review the negative-inventory list before generating purchase orders, and confirm supplier assignments are current so generated POs route to the right vendor.
Importing Large Inventory Files
- Test new CSV formats with a small file first
- Use the sample CSV as a template
- Check Upload History for row-level errors after every import, especially before using Full replace
